Primary photo

It is essential for you to post at least one photo as your primary photo. This picture must be in jpg form, which is the commonest type (ie: you file it on your computer as an xxxxx.jpg file). The ideal size is about 1000 x 750 pixels ("px") width and height. The minimum width and height is 480px and the maximum file size is two megabytes ("mb"). To upload a photo, remember where you filed it on your computer, go to your entry, click on "Upload a primary photo" and follow instructions. If you are changing an existing photo all you do is upload a new one and the system will make the substitution. Remember, however, that you must refresh your browser (to clear its memory) to see the new photo yourself.

Secondary photos

The new site now allows you to post up to twenty photos with unlimited descriptive text. To do this go to "Edit text and photos" in your entry and you will find the facilities to post photos and text under each of the four categories, Home, Neighbourhood, Family and Lifestyle. The procedure for posting secondary photos is similar to that of the primary photo except that you can upload smaller pictures. The ideal size is about 500 x 300px and the minimum height and width is 200px.

Text

For text all you do is type the appropriate text in the box provided. Remember to save it before you leave the page. You can also copy (CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) text that you have pre-prepared in, say, Word files.

Taking pictures

Photos for the internet do not have to be high quality and generally any digital camera will do including those on many mobile phones. If you are using a mini digital camera most of them have a facility to take "internet quality" pictures (i.e: small) - otherwise they tend to produce pictures of 1.5mb or more which are more difficult to post, especially if you have a slow connection. If you do not have a digital camera try buying a throw away at Boots and getting them to put the results on CD.
