For the more adventurous set - Meg Pier has swapped her Boston-area home for international properties using the websites .....and Intervac. In addition to free accommodation - yes, free - Pier says the experience has changed the way she and her husband vacation, creating a network of like-minded travelers around the world.
Our exchange partners from Vancouver arrive on the 1st and then we are off across there from the 3rd-15th. On the 15th we fly to Toronto to stay with an Intervac couple who stayed with us earlier this year, to do the sites and then return on the 19th. Intervac is fabulous!
We have exchanged four times this year with Bruges, Copenhagen, Oslo and St Gallen in Switzerland. Two of them were repeat visits as they were so nice. Keep up the good work!
I just had a 2 week trip in the Rockies, and my next port of call is a hospitality swap with a couple in Kingston Ontario. I have had some great swaps since my husband died and I have been travelling alone. I am always singing the praises of Intervac; its getting to be 20 years we have been members
We had a very good first year as Intervac members. There were lots of offers and three very successful exchanges with a weekend in Paris, ten days in Lido di Jesolo, which is the Venice seaside, and two weeks in Tours, in the Loire valley.
We think Intervac is great. It is the only way my family of five can go on holiday in the present financial climate! We are looking forward to our next exchanges in Paris for Christmas and Sweden for the summer.
We have had so many contacts we just cannot fit in all the possible holidays! Many thanks for your site!
I have found the website so easy to navigate and I am really impressed by it. I have uploaded photos and added web links with no problems at all. You can zoom into different regions of a country, look at chart to see the interest in your home and keep notes on your favourites. What a brilliant site!

To be fair this is the most common question. Most people share the same anxiety before making their first home exchange. Our experience has been that members go out of their way to take extra special care of their exchange home. The majority of members are professional people with similar standards to your own.

We recommend that you contact your insurance company to confirm that the policy you hold covers any guests staying in your home. There is no special insurance clause for "home exchange" and you should tell your insurance company that you are NOT letting your home for a fee. Most companies will continue to cover for fire, theft and Acts of God risks. No company to my knowledge will cover persons other than the insured for accidental damage to home or contents and this should be covered by the exchange agreement - the guest should pay for breakages.

All kinds of homes are offered from small flats to mansions. Home exchange works on a like for like basis and many members are just looking for a clean and comfortable base from which to explore a different country or region. Your place may be just what someone like you is looking for.

When you agree to exchange with another member, you should always complete the Home Exchange Agreement which you do by registering your agreement (at the bottom of your members home page). This serves as a commitment from the exchange party, which they must honour unless exceptional and unforeseen circumstances arise, such as serious illness. If this happens we will make every effort to find a replacement and we have found that members are often very understanding of this kind of predicament.

You should give an indication of the number in your party on your listing. Once arrangements are firming up, be very specific. If friends are holidaying in the same area and want to stay with you for a few days, then it is only a courtesy to ask your hosts permission.
